Jon Gordon’s, “The Shark and the Goldfish” is a creative imaginative adventure story. It seems Gordon designed this book in efforts to advise people on how to thrive in a society that expects you to fail. Also This read is a great tool in teaching strategies on how to deal with adversity and challenges life may burden you with. What makes this book such a great tool is that the author told the story through the personalities of a naïve goldfish named “Gordy” and “Sammy” a reformed shark. For lack of a better term.
It can be assumed that this book is a metaphor which explains the struggles a young business professional may face when thrown into a field that can easily resemble an ocean full of “sharks“. Will you surcome to the “Wave of Change” or “Embrace and Ride the Wave of Change”? Gordon explains how to embrace and ride the wave of change through Gordys peculiar yet practical delima. Are you a shark or a goldfish?
Overall, this book was a great read. Personally, I am not excited about reading long books with a lot of words that make me refer back to a dictionary. So this book allowed me to be engaged and intrigued every time I opened up this read. “The Shark and The Goldfish” is great for organizations with a large amount of members because like Gordy new members will feel overwhelmed by negative opinions of others in the organization and the social change that may be accompanied with being a participant in this organization. Personally, I will encourage my fraternity brothers to read this book in order assist in our personal relationships with each other and build higher asperations within ourselves & as a team.
After reading this book I feel as if I relate most with the shark. I encourage people to read this book and after reading it ask your self, "Are you a shark or a goldfish?"
